Dutch National Opera & Ballet is looking for a:
Costume cutter (women’s workshop ballet)
About us
Dutch National Opera & Ballet is one of the largest cultural organisations in the Netherlands, located in the heart of Amsterdam. With over 700 colleagues representing more than 30 nationalities, we work together every day to enrich people's lives through the wonder, beauty and meaning of opera and ballet. Every detail matters, which is why we value craftsmanship and expertise throughout our organisation. Would you like to contribute your experience and enthusiasm to our team?
About the position
The ballet costume workshop consists of eight colleagues, four specialising in women's costumes and four in men's costumes. The workshop is part of the Ballet Costume Department and works closely with the Hair & Make-up Department, the dyeing workshop and, of course, Dutch National Ballet.
The department is responsible for dressing dancers and extras from head to toe. As a costume cutter, you will create new costumes as well as alter, repair and restore existing ones. Costume designs range from contemporary and classical to fantasy, and you will frequently work with stretch fabrics such as Lycra.
About you
We are looking for a skilled and collaborative colleague to join our team. You have completed a professional tailoring qualification (such as the Dutch Tailor Professional programme, formerly known as Meesteropleiding Coupeur) or have achieved an equivalent level of expertise through education and practical experience.
You are confident working with a wide variety of fabrics and enjoy technical challenges that allow you to further develop your skills and craftsmanship. You work accurately and efficiently, even under tight deadlines, and are willing to work overtime when necessary.
As you will be communicating with international dancers and designers, a basic command of English is required.
What we offer
- A challenging position that allows you to apply and further develop your specialist skills;
- An initial one-year contract, with the intention of extending it;
- A gross monthly salary ranging from €2,739 to €3,623, depending on your knowledge and experience;
- 8% holiday allowance and a good pension scheme;
- 30 days of annual leave and 5 additional working time reduction (ATV) days;
- Attractive discounts and benefits for our opera and ballet performances;
- Opportunities for personal and professional development through education and training;
- A contribution towards a gym membership;
- A commuting allowance (including a cycling allowance for distances under 8 km) and a tax-efficient bicycle scheme;
- The terms and conditions of the Dutch National Opera & Ballet Collective Labour Agreement apply to this position (please click here).
How to apply
Are you enthusiastic about this position? We look forward to receiving your CV and cover letter by 15 November via the 'Apply' button.
Applications are processed through our HR system, so we kindly ask you not to apply by email. We aim to respond to all applicants within two weeks of the application deadline. A one-week practical trial forms part of the selection process.
Dutch National Opera & Ballet embraces diversity and inclusion. We welcome applications from everyone.
