Nationale Opera & Ballet is een van de grootste Nederlandse culturele organisaties en bevindt zich in hartje Amsterdam. Bij ons ontstaat de magie op het toneel. Over de functie
Het Nationale Ballet (HNB) is per 1 augustus 2026 op zoek naar een gepassioneerde en ervaren artistiek leider voor onze Junior Company. In deze rol speel je een sleutelrol in het aantrekken en begeleiden van toptalent. Je draagt bij aan de instroom, doorstroom en ontwikkeling van de dansers van de Junior Company, en je zorgt ervoor dat talent zich optimaal kan ontwikkelen binnen ons gezelschap.
Je geeft leiding aan de Junior Company, waar je direct 12 dansers en 2 medewerkers aanstuurt (een balletmeester en assistent artistieke staf). Je bent verantwoordelijk voor de organisatie van dagelijkse repetities en lessen, deze verzorg je veelal zelf. Daarnaast draag je zorg voor de programmering van de specifieke Junior Company producties, waaronder een jaarlijkse landelijke tournee, grote co-productie met een partnergezelschap en diverse kleinschalige optredens. Je speelt een grote rol in de ontwikkeling van jonge dansers en je bent actief betrokken bij (het initiëren van) projecten voor dansers, opkomende choreografen, ontwerpers en andere talenten binnen HNB.
Dit alles doe je binnen de financiële kaders die door de directeur ballet bepaald worden.
Je werkt nauw samen met de Artistiek Directeur en bent mede verantwoordelijk voor de casting van Junior Company dansers in HNB-producties. Daarnaast werk je nauw samen met de afdeling Planning & Productie voor het realiseren van de JC programma’s. Ook vertegenwoordig je HNB op (inter)nationale bijeenkomsten en balletcompetities en draag je bij aan strategische samenwerkingen met opleidingsinstituten en andere gezelschappen.
Wie wij zoeken
Per 1 augustus 2026 zoeken wij een inspirerende en daadkrachtige leider met een sterke artistieke visie op talentontwikkeling in ballet. Je hebt een diepgaande kennis van de internationale balletwereld en beschikt over een scherp oog voor danstalent. Daarnaast heb je ervaring in het begeleiden en coachen van dansers en choreografen en ben je in staat om talenten op hoog niveau te laten excelleren. Je hebt een goed inzicht in educatieve leerlijnen en een scherp begrip van de veranderingen binnen de balletwereld, waardoor je talentontwikkeling en artistieke groei op een eigentijdse en toekomstgerichte manier weet te benaderen.
Verder beschik je over:
- Aantoonbare ervaring in een leidinggevende of artistieke rol binnen de balletwereld.
- Uitgebreide kennis van en ervaring met repertoire, casting en talentontwikkeling.
- Uitstekende communicatieve en organisatorische vaardigheden.
- Het vermogen om inspirerend leiding te geven en samenwerkingen aan te gaan.
- Ervaring met het ontwikkelen van artistieke concepten en promotionele activiteiten.
- Een internationaal netwerk binnen de ballet- en danswereld.
- Je spreekt Nederlands (of bent bereid dit te leren) en Engels.
Wat wij bieden
- Een jaarcontract met uitzicht op een vast dienstverband;
- Een salaris van € 5.498,- tot €6.554,- (bij 40 uur), afhankelijk van je kennis en ervaring;
- 27 vakantiedagen én 12 atv-dagen (bij een fulltime dienstverband);
- 8% vakantiegeld en een goede pensioenregeling;
- Een aantrekkelijke plaatskaartregeling voor opera en ballet;
- Opleidings- en trainingsmogelijkheden;
- Een bijdrage voor een sportschoolabonnement;
- Een reiskostenvergoeding van 0,23 per km (wanneer je tussen de 8 km en 50 km van je vaste werkplek theater/decoratelier woont);
- De cao Toneel & Dans is op deze functie van toepassing.

About the Role
Dutch National Ballet (HNB) is looking for a passionate and experienced Artistic Director for our Junior Company, starting August 1, 2026. In this key position, you will play a vital role in attracting and guiding top talent. You will contribute to the recruitment, progression, and development of the Junior Company dancers and ensure that talent can grow and flourish within our organization.
You will lead the Junior Company, directly managing 12 dancers and 2 staff members (a ballet master and an assistant artistic staff member). You are responsible for the organization of daily rehearsals and classes, which you will often conduct yourself. Additionally, you will curate the programming of Junior Company productions, including an annual national tour, a large co-production with a partner company, and various smaller-scale performances. You will play a significant role in the development of young dancers and actively participate in (and initiate) projects for dancers, emerging choreographers, designers, and other talents within HNB. All of this will be done within the financial framework set by the Ballet Director.
You will work closely with the Artistic Director and be jointly responsible for casting Junior Company dancers in HNB productions. You will also collaborate closely with the Planning & Production department to realize the JC programs. Furthermore, you will represent HNB at (inter)national events and ballet competitions and contribute to strategic partnerships with educational institutions and other companies.
Who We’re Looking For
As of August 1, 2026, we are seeking an inspiring and decisive leader with a strong artistic vision for talent development in ballet. You have in-depth knowledge of the international ballet world and a keen eye for dance talent. You also have experience mentoring and coaching dancers and choreographers and know how to help high-potential talent excel. You understand educational pathways and the changing dynamics in the ballet world, enabling you to support artistic growth in a contemporary and forward-thinking way.
You also bring:
- Proven experience in a leadership or artistic role within the ballet world;
- Extensive knowledge of repertoire, casting, and talent development;
- Excellent communication and organizational skills;
- The ability to lead and inspire, and to build collaborative partnerships;
- Experience in developing artistic concepts and promotional initiatives;
- An international network within the ballet and dance community;
- Fluency in English and Dutch (or a willingness to learn Dutch).
What We Offer
- A one-year contract with the prospect of a permanent position;
- A salary between €5,498 and €6,554 (based on 40 hours), depending on experience and qualifications;
